Guide

How to use the Chord Chart

Root and chord family

Choose the root from the 12 buttons at the top, then filter by family: basic chords (major, minor, power, sus, dim, aug), sixths and add chords, sevenths, extended 9-11-13 chords, altered dominants and slash chords with a different bass note. If you know the name, just type Am7, F#m or Bb9 into the search box.

How to read a diagram

The left vertical line is the 6th string (low E) and the right one is the 1st string (high E). The thick line at the top is the nut; if the chord sits higher up the neck, the number beside it is the starting fret. An empty ring above a string means play it open, a cross means don't play it, and a long bar means a barre. Labels such as 1, b3, 5, b7 inside the dots are the chord degrees; switch to note names with the Note button.

Colours

The root is dark green, the 3rd red, the 5th teal, the 7th blue and added tones such as 9, 11, 13 yellow, so you can see at a glance where each chord tone sits and compare voicings.

The details window

Every voicing of the chord (catalogue shapes plus extra shapes generated along the neck), its notes, formula, piano layout, the major and minor keys it belongs to with degree numbers, scales that fit and related chords on the same root are all here. From there you can jump to the Chord Positions tool to see the chord across the whole neck.

Left-handed view

The Left-handed button mirrors the diagrams so the low string is on the right. Your choice applies to every card and the details window.
